What is Eczema?

Eczema is a condition where patches of skin can become red, inflamed, itchy and sore. It is thought to be linked to the body’s immune system, and causes can range from irritation from perfumes or other products, to stress.

There are many different types of eczema and it can impact your feet, causing dry, red, rough skin, itching and pain and sometimes blisters.

How can I help myself?

Self treatment involves using creams to help the skin, however is is advisable to get a diagnosis from a GP, Pharmacist or Dermatologist first as creams often need to be prescribed. If you can identify possible irritating agents, such as perfumes or washing powers and change or remove these it may help, and perhaps managing stress could also be a factor.

When to see a Podiatrist?

If you see a podiatrist about red marks on the skin, eczema is one diagnosis they may consider and they can liaise with you GP to help you get the treatment you need.

Podiatrists can also advise, and may sell good, perfume free moisturisers that may be useful.
